Research The research at the Division of Combustion Engines is directed at the study of velocities and turbulence in the combustion chambers of engines. The heat releaste during combustion is studied by analysing the pressure trace of the combustion. The Division has ten internal combustion engines dedicated for laboratory tests, of which three has been equipped with optical access into the combustion chamber. The optical access is made possible by fitting quartz glass windows in the cylinder head and/or in the piston, and enables the use of laser diagnostics. Much of the work is done in cooperation with the Division of Combustion Physics. The following laser diagnostics methods are used:
